Harwood can?t keep up with the Joneses

LED by father and son combination Brett and Aaron Jones, Maclean United scored a four wicket win over Harwood in the Lower Clarence Cricket Association (LCCA) first grade match at Wherret Park on Saturday.

After Harwood scored 155 in the rain-shortened 35-over match, United hauled in Harwood's total to finish with 6-159 in 32 overs.

Brett Jones, batting first drop, anchored United innings with a fine 55 and son Aaron scored 39 in the middle order.

Harwood were best served by Shane Causley who top scored with 58. He was well supported by Matt Peterie with 33.

The pair's partnership took Harwood from 3-36 to 4-120 and the side's backbone of the innings.

Opener Travis Anderson (24) and Joel Peterie (17) lended able support to the total.

United opening bowlers Luke Many (2-18) and Aaron Jones (2-29) made good use of the new ball to trouble all batsman. Brett Lancaster chipped in with 2-16 from three overs.

United looked to be in a spot of bother when they slumped to 3-29 but the steely partnership between the Jones family led the recovery.

United's Michael Essex also provided a valuable contribution remaining 29no and guiding the side safely home.

For Harwood Joel Petrie (2-28) and Anthony Battin (1-29) bowled with purpose and always looked dangerous. Isaac Dufficy came into his own late in the game snaring 2-13 from 3.1 overs including the final wicket of Nick Clark for a duck.

It was an entertaining game but United's solid batting under pressure made the difference.
