Have a heart of gold

VALENTINE'S Day is a day of love, a celebration of all that it means to be in love and a day to spend some quality time with that special someone.

All over the world millions of people will be buying expensive presents for their loved ones, sending anonymous cards ? and no doubt emails ? and the standard fare of chocolates and roses for the unimaginative among us.

But here in the Clarence Valley you can not only show your love for your partner, but support a local charity by buying a Variety Club Heart of Gold.

The $2 gold hearts are available from most stores in Yamba and will help support the local Variety Club raise funds for needy children.

The Variety Club president, Jon Riordan, said the hearts were fitting for this time of year.

"The hearts of gold are a symbol of Variety and as we consider everyone who donates to have a heart of gold we thought it was fitting to sell them around Valentine's Day," he said.

"Every shop keeper so far is happy to sell them and people are coming up to buy them off me as I'm selling them, so it's started well."
