Hebbard departure rocks Magpies

By Tim Howard

Lower Clarence Magpies captain coach Jason Hebbard announced last night he will not be playing with the club in 2006.

Hebbard, who came to the club as captain coach in 2005, told the club of his decision at training last night.

Club president Garry Anderson said Hebbard was leaving the club on good terms to pursue a work offer and for personal reasons.

"It was a very difficult decision for Jason to make," Anderson said.

"We've been aware since about Christmas he's been negotiating for some pretty solid fulltime work in Cronulla.

"He's leaving the club on good terms and the Magpies are looking to continue the momentum he established with the club last season."

Anderson announced halfback Jason Wilkinson will be the Magpies' replacement captain coach for 2006.

"China (Wilkinson) was only a point behind the NRRRL Player of the Year winner last season, he's played rep football for Northern Rivers in 2004," Anderson said.
