Hey big hitter

According to Shane Powell, he was simply trying to do what every golfer has to do ? get the little white ball in the small hole.

But when you manage to get an albatross on the par-five eighth at Yamba Golf Course, than all type of modesty has to be thrown out the window.

The 24-year-old's amazing feat of strength and skill stunned the club, which believes it is the first albatross on the course.

After a dismal opening seven holes, which left the seven-handicapper seven over par, Shane said all he wanted to do was 'unload' on the next drive.

He certainly managed that, smacking the ball about 330 metres down the 480 metre fairway.

"I started it out right and it came back into the middle of the fairway," he said.

"I just whaled into it."

After trekking up to his ball he pulled his trusty sand wedge from his bag and slapped the ball 150 metres to the green.

"We all thought it had gone over the back of the green because it went into the shadows," he said.

"One of the other blokes we were playing with chipped in for a birdie and when he went to get the ball out there was my ball."
