Hospital staff preps for big reunion

IT HAS been 30 years since there has been a reunion of staff at Grafton Base Hospital and, because of changing times, one planned for October 29 could be the last.

Organisers, former director of nursing, Kay Paine, and Jeanette Lawson, say the planned reunion will be different from those of the past as it will involve all staff, not just nursing staff.

Mrs Paine, who is about to release a book on the history of the hospital, said the end of on-site training for nursing staff in 1986 meant the camaraderie of staff was no longer the same, and she thought it unlikely there would be another reunion.

"It's different now," she said.

"There are likely to be some funny stories told at the reunion, but contrary to popular misconception, there would be little about what people say when going in or coming out of anaesthetic.

"People really don't say much."

In the process of collecting material for her book, Mrs Paine has gathered hundreds of old photographs of hospital staff and activities, which will be on display during the reunion dinner.

Mrs Paine said she hoped there would be between 200-300 attend the reunion dinner at Silks on Course.

She has asked that anyone wanting to attend register with Ms Lawson on 66428526, Mrs Paine on 66447069 or email to kaypaine@hotkey.net.au. Registrations must be made by October 7.
