Indian summer for South cricketers

CONGRATULATIONS to the South Grafton Primary School boys' cricket team for another nail-biting win, this time over Urunga.

South's batting order crumbled early, being 5/17, until Billy Blanch with his cool head once again steadied the ship.

Zac Mawhinney and Jamie Hough together with the rest of the batting order helped bring the total up to 50 runs.

Urunga were stunned by our bowlers who were on fire. Shaun Vandeham and Matt O'Malley with their accurate bowling were unhittable.

Then Billy Blanch and Brendan Cleaver demolished Urunga's middle order, each taking three wickets.

Jeremy Cooper's straight bowling paid off, taking the last wicket in the last over with Urunga only needing four runs.

Matt O'Malley and Rhys Nelson took great catches.

South's win takes them to Round 5 (a North Coast Division Final) of the Brian Taber Shield Primary Schools Cricket Competition which will be played later this year.

Batting: Shaun Vanderham 5, Nick Smith 2, Billy Blanch 4, Brendan Cleaver 2, Zac Mawhinney 6, Jamie Hough n.o. 2, Joel Browning 1.

Bowling: Shaun Vanderham 1/6, Matt O'Malley 0/7, Billy Blanch 3/8, Brendan Cleaver 3/9, Michael Thurtel 0/11, Jeremy Cooper 1/4.
