Indoor cricket teams into grand finals

By TIM HOWARD

GRAFTON Indoor Cricket Centre representative teams are preparing for some grand final action early next month.

Five of the centre's six teams are off to Tamworth on September 3 for the Super League grand finals.

Centre owner Andrew Firth said the mens 1 and 3 teams, the Over-30s, Over-40s and the women's team will all play in grand finals of their competitions.

Firth said that it was not only the skills of the players that helped the teams make the finals.

"The players acknowledge the efforts of their sponsors ? McKimms Real Estate, the Crown Hotel, Jacaranda Hotel, Clarence Valley Sheds and Threadworks ? in coming up with the funds to cover their costs," he said.

Firth also acknowledged the success of Grafton indoor cricketers at the recent National titles.

"Three players from the centre: Greg Mears, Chris McClymont and Brad Mostyn played in the NSW team which finished runner-up to Queensland."

Firth was in the NSW Over30s team that defeated South Australia in the grand final to secure the State's second consecutive title in the age division.

In another development for the centre, Grafton will host this weekend's Under-16 girls' development squad challenge between NSW and Queensland.

Firth said three Clarence Valley girls: Kara Sutherland, Melanie Cowan and Amanda Whitby (who are also members of the Grafton women's team) will turn out for NSW in three games over the weekend.
