Inland freight option

AN INLAND freight highway might still be an option once the Tintenbar-to-Ewingsdale stretch of the Pacific Highway is upgraded.

State Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal said the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority was continuing its study into a possible freight corridor along the Summerland Way.

However, he said the inland option was not being considered as an alternative to upgrading the Pacific Highway.

"We're committed to upgrading the Pacific Highway and the RTA is also looking at the Summerland Way for freight," he said.

"We're waiting for the (Summerland Way) report to come to our office, and we expect to have that in the very near future."

The minister made the comments during a visit to the region to announce the construction of a $3.5 million noise wall along the Pacific Highway at Ewingsdale.

The wait has angered residents who were expecting the announcement this week.
