THE organisers of The Daily Examiner Netball Challenge will adopt a new format for the 2005 competition that begins today at Westward Park, Grafton.

Play to decide who will be the finalists in all three grades on Monday, September 12 September will begin at 1.30pm.

Teams from Grafton, South Grafton, Maclean and McAuley Catholic College will contest the year 7/8, year 9/10 and Open divisions.

Predictions of possible finalists are difficult, but last year's open finalists Grafton High and South Grafton High are expected to be the strongest teams.

Over the last three years there has not been more than three goals separating the teams in the many games they have contested.

South Grafton were crowned the champion school last year with a narrow 34-32 result against Grafton.

Grafton High travel to Sydney as North Coast Champions to contest the State CHS finals and hope to return to win the local challenge which has evaded them for a couple of years.

Grafton narrowly defeated South Grafton earlier this year.

Maclean year 9/10 team will go into the competition favourites after dominating the competition last year.

The year 7/8 competition is wide open as these teams a usually new each year as the students reach high school and progress from the primary competition.

Everyone is invited to come along and support the teams. Canteen facilities available including a sausage sizzle.
