Jockey faces probe

By TONY WHITE

GRAFTON police are investigating whether a high-profile jockey assaulted an ambulance officer at Grafton races on Thursday.

It is understood the jockey is accused of using his whip to flick the ambulance officer's buttocks.

The alleged assault, at 3.55pm behind the barriers before the start of the Grafton Cup Prelude race, was reported to police yesterday.

The ambulance officer alleges he was assaulted while attempting to carry out his duties.

The Grafton Cup Prelude was delayed for 15 minutes after clerk of the course Steve Baker suffered a broken leg.

He was treated by ambulance officers, before being taken to Grafton Base Hospital.

Chief steward Bill Fanning said he was aware of 'allegations' but had not received any official complaint.
