Junior quest under way

By EMMA CORNFORD

ON Friday night it was karaoke and yesterday it was the first photo shoot for the 12 girls running for Junior Jacaranda Queen.

The group of girls, aged from 11 to 14, will be fundraising hard for the next few months.

Organiser Karen Crispin said she had a 'great bunch' of contestants this year.

"They all seem to be looking forward to the activities. Our first event this Sunday is a bowls day," Mrs Crispin said.

"We're pretty much sticking to the things we've done before at the junior level, but we might be adding in a few new things this year like a bingo afternoon, so the girls can mingle with a different section of the community."

Mrs Crispin said most of the girls had family or friends who had entered the competition in the past.

Some of the junior entrants have also gone on to enter the Jacaranda Queen quest ? something festival organisers no doubt hope happens this year ? only one contestant has nom- inated for the 2006 competition.
