Juniors grand final weekend

SOUTH Services overcame a spirited Coutts Crossing outfit to win a tight Under-14 CRJCA grand final.

Coutts won the toss and batted. Some tight bowling and steady batting from Coutts saw them off to a slow but steady start and after 20 overs had them 1/46 with plenty of wickets in hand.

Nic Wood lifted the scoring rate, hitting fours to all parts of the ground. He was out in the 33rd over for 48. Lewis Chevalley helped them reach a respectable total, scoring 15. Coutts finished with 4/116 from 34 overs.

Souths' innings started poorly with a run-out in the third over with C Cleaver run out for three. Souths' batters then collapsed to some excellent bowling and fielding to be 5/42 after 18 overs.

Ryan McDonald (10) and Jake Frame then compiled a 40-run stand to give them a chance.

But another collapse saw them at 9/95 with Nic Wood bowling well 3/11 and a run-out (direct hit) from C Wilson left J Frame and B Cleaver to score 22 runs.

In a nail-biting finish they scored the runs with two overs to spare. J Frame not out 54 and B Cleaver not out 12. Both batted very well.

Congratulations to both teams on a splendid season.
