TAFE AND TOYS: Toy Kingdom worker Kale Hodgson, who received an award for excellence in the TAFE retail course

Kale top of TAFE kingdom

ALMOST a year ago, there was a notice taped in the Maclean Toy Kingdom window, advertising a trainee position.

Brooms Head resident Kale Hodgson saw the notice and decided to give it a go.

The 19-year-old made the right decision and last night was given an award of excellence for the TAFE course he is completing as part of his job, a certificate two in retail operations.

"It's really good, I enjoy it immensely," he said.

"I definitely think retail is for me because you're learn- ing new things all the time and basically that's the point in life, isn't it?"

Mr Hodgson said he hoped to continue with study and, depending on what opportunities present themselves, was considering completing certificates three and four.

His TAFE teacher, Jeanette Malberg, said her pupil received the award because of the effort and enthusiasm he put into his work.

"A lot of the younger trainees are too afraid to ask questions at work but Kale has always asked his boss things very openly and has been really enthusias- tic."
