Kroehnert shines with bat and ball

CLARENCE River Cricket Association (CRCA) all rounder Matt Kroehnert produced a virtuoso display with bat and ball on Sunday to help destroy Nambucca/Bellingen in the interdistrict one day competition.
Coming in with the score on 4-81, the Nambucca/Bellingen bowlers had no answer to his onslaught as he smashed them to all parts of the ground for 10 fours and one six in his innings of 60.
He helped CRCA to a total of 201 before they were bowled out in the 39th over, 11 overs short of their full complement.
Jason Rainbow also contributed with the bat, scoring 33 after coming in at number three.
Nambucca/Bellingen started well in the chase, going to lunch at 1-40 after nine overs.
However, things changed after the interval when Clarence River captain Andrew Firth introduced the spin pairing of Tony Blanch and Kroehnert.
They had no answer to the pair, with Blanch and Kroehnert combining to take the last nine wickets for only 43 runs, to have Nambucca/Bellingen bowled out for 92 after just 26 overs.
Blanch finished with 5-27 from nine overs, while Kroehnert took 4-34, also off nine overs.
Firth said the match changed once the spin bowlers were introduced into the attack.
"Our pace bowlers struggled a little bit against them because they play most of their cricket on synthetic wickets, so they attack a bit more than other batters do," he said.
"They couldn't handle the spin on the turf, so Tony and Matty were able to rip right through them."
He said that after Sunday's result, Clarence River are a chance of securing a home final.
"We should definitely be in the finals because we have won two out of three matches," Firth said.
