Laidback lifestyle and no regrets

BEN and Gemma Simmons emigrated from London to Yamba almost two years ago and so far are extremely happy with their decision. Originally moving to the Valley because Mrs Simmons' parents owned Charcoal Chicken at Yamba, the couple said they had found it easy to slip into the town's laidback lifestyle.

"We like it for bringing up the kids, really. There's good family day care, and Jasper has just started at a good pre-school, so we are very happy," the Simmons said.

Pat Day and his wife Laurie moved to Woodford Island near Maclean for work, but have always loved the area.

Mrs Day has family in the area, so the couple had visited on nu- merous occasions before settling here in March.

Mr Day said the main reason they moved was for work, but there were bigger factors at stake when they made their decision.

"We want to have kids one of these days, so that's one of the reasons we came here," he said.

"The job isn't paying what I could get elsewhere, it's more the lifestyle and the area that it is."
