Life?s a beach, so long as it?s clean

ANDREA Pilch has spent her life on the coast, so she knows what makes a good beach. The Raine and Horne Yamba of- fice manager said the business re- cently entered Yamba's Main Beach in the Clean Beach Chal- lenge. "I've always gone to the beach since I was a kid and have always lived near the coast," Mrs Pilch said. "My father was a surfer so every holiday had to be at the beach." There are nine categories in the

Clean Beach Challenge and Main Beach will be in the running for the Department of Environment and Conservation Overall Clean Beach. Mrs Pilch said Raine and Horne hoped to raise awareness of Yamba and Main Beach. The beach would be judged on factors including facilities, friendli- ness, waste management and how well it is utilised by the communi- ty. Mrs Pilch said Main Beach had the edge over other entries be- cause of its cleanliness. "On other beaches in Australia you will find rubbish," she said. Entries close on August 18 and judging will be on September 25.
