Local heroes star in surf

THE Far North Coast Regional Titles surfing competition kicked off at Yamba last weekend with excellent surf, weather and competition.

With a swell of about a metre at Pippie Beach, the Adminstrator of Surfing Far North Coast, Keith Anderson said the highlights included the Senior Mens and Open Mens.

"That's why this competition is so good - the ex pro surfers and the pro juniors all come together ... just the intensity and the competition," Anderson said.

The Senior Mens winner was Jeremy Walters.

Walters, who runs the Yamba Surf School, doubled up later to take third in the Open Mens.

The Open Mens winner was Laurie Towner and Yamba-based two-time women's world kneeboard champion, Kathy Pryor stayed at the top of the points score taking out the Open Knee- boarding heat.
