Maclean out of Shield

By TONY WHITE

MACLEAN High were knocked out of the University Rugby League Shield in Maclean yesterday, beaten 52-12 by Coonabarabran.

Maclean did not start the match well and never recovered.

Coach Andrew Ford said his side was beaten by a better-drilled outfit.

"They (Coonabarabran) targeted some of our small blokes early on and we lost second-rower Guy Barlow with an injury in the first 10 minutes," Ford said.

"It was hard to come back from there."

Best for Maclean were country representative Kane Douglas, who Ford said 'went hard all day', captain and halfback Jackson Philp and second-rower, Luke Maloney.

Five-eighth John Scott scored a spectacular 80m try and Jackson Lucas was Maclean's other try scorer.
