Maclean soccer star follows in the footsteps of his hero

By ADRIAN MILLER

MACLEAN High School student Kyle Sutton will have a dream come true when he joins the NSW Secondary Schoolboys soccer team tour to Liverpool Football Club, the team of Australian superstar and Socceroo Harry Kewell.

A Liverpool supporter, Kyle will see Liverpool play and experience first hand the facilities his hero uses.

Kyle's father, Wayne Sutton, the first grade coach of the Maclean Bobcats, said his son was ecstatic.

"It was initially decided they would go to Barcelona, but they pulled the pin and changed the trip to Liverpool," he said.

"We went to England in 2000 so we thought Kyle wouldn't be as keen, but it's the team he follows so he was more excited about going there than he was about going to Spain."

Kyle, a reliable defender who can play anywhere in defence, was selected after the State titles in August.

He plays for the Maclean Bobcats in the Far North Coast Premier League and the Northern Suns in the Queensland Summer Youth League.

The 13-day trip will be based in and around Anfield, Liverpool's home ground.
