Magpies cane Rebels reserves

By Tony White

SOUTH Grafton Rebels reserve grade team were on the wrong end of another huge scoreline at McKittrick Park yesterday beaten 82-4 by Lower Clarence.

The Magpies, containing a number of first grade players, ran riot scoring 14 tries

However, a huge cheer went up around McKittrick Park when Ben Woods crossed for a Rebels four-pointer out wide in the 56th minute to signal the Rebels first try in 126 minutes of football after a 70-nil hiding from Cudgen in round one.

Lower Clarence, led by Ken Mercy, looked good, tackling strongly and working set patterns to perfection.

Unfortunately for South Grafton they are going to have to cope with rival clubs using first graders, particularly early in the season.

Best for the Rebels were Jade Kearns, Josh Burton and classy youngster Daniel Bligh.

RESERVE GRADE: LOWER CLARENCE 82 (Zane Purcell 2, Anthony Hickling 2, Dane Walker 2, Nathan Kelly 2, Troy Currie, Barry Ah-see, Ben Gillespie, Wayne Read, Aaron Walker, Scott Laurie, Ken Mercy, Ryan Binge trys; Anthony Hickling 6, Scott Laurie, Troy Harding goals) d SOUTH GRAFTON 4 (ben Woods try).

UNDER-18s: LOWER CLARENCE 24 (Callam Lenard 2, Shane Laurie, Tom Martin trys; Jackson Philp 4 goals) d SOUTH GRAFTON 20 (Shane Cropper, Dale Eamens jnr, Luke Walker, Ryan Danvers tries; Dwayne Randall 2 goals).
