Making dollars go even further
By IAN THOMSON
A MAJOR incentive for consumers to spend their money locally will be officially launched by the Grafton Chamber of Commerce and Industry next week.
The chamber's initiative will see 'Grafton Dollars' introduced into the local economy.
Using a similar principle to fuel discount vouchers, businesses will issue 'Grafton Dollars' to customers as incentives or in lieu of discounts.
The chamber's CEO, Lyn Dis- kon, said the scheme was a great way to encourage consumers to shop locally.
''A pharmacy may offer one 'Grafton Dollar' for every $25 spent on skincare and make-up products, for instance,'' Ms Diskon said.
''Or a hardware store might offer two 'Grafton Dollars' to customers spending more than $50.''
Customers can spend their 'Grafton Dollars' at participating businesses in the greater Grafton area.
For example, a customer ar- rives with 40 current 'Grafton Dollars' and buys an item worth $75. The customer pays for the item with the 40 'Grafton Dollars' and $35 in real cash.
Ms Diskon said 'Grafton Dollars' could only be spent at participating outlets in Grafton, ensuring that a customer's discount or bonus was spent locally. The promotion is open only to current financial members of the Grafton Chamber of Commerce and Industry. More details from Lyn Diskon on 6642 4313 or 0427 900 313.
