Matrons honoured

THE Jacaranda Queen's Afternoon Tea was held at the South Grafton Ex-Services Club yesterday.

This year's theme was recognising the matrons of honour. A matron of honour from each decade since the sixties spoke at the afternoon tea, reminiscing about their experiences with their Jacaranda queens and party members.

Joan Muir OAM, the 1965 matron of honour, addressed the crowd at the afternoon tea, as did 1971 matron of honour Jean Sebbins, 1989 matron of honour Elaine Taubman, 1994 matron of honour Shirley Bourke and 2001 matron of honour Jan Gillett.

Jacaranda Queen of 1957, Lexie Cassimaty, presented Jacaranda Festival president Helen Weatherstone with a photo album, which had belonged to her matron of honour, the late Mrs Cady. A display of photographs of past festivals was also a feature of the afternoon.
