More blood donors needed

THE Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) is in desperate need of blood donors and is calling on Clarence Valley residents to donate at the Grafton Base Hospital this week.

The Grafton Mobile Blood Service will be at the hospital this Wednesday and Thursday, and because blood stocks are low due to the Easter holidays, more donors are needed to maintain adequate blood supplies.

According to the ARCBS, 40 donations are needed to bring blood re- serves up to sufficient levels.

As of yesterday donor numbers were still well short of the required amount.

A spokesperson for the ARCBS said any donations would provide a boost to local hospitals.

"The ARCBS is asking the community for increased support during this difficult time so we can continue to meet the needs of local hospitals," the spokesperson said.

"The ARCBS asks healthy people who are aged between 18-69 to make an appointment to donate blood as soon as possible."

For people wishing to make a donation, contact the ARCBS on 131495 or register your contact details online at www.donateblood.com.au.

The Mobile Blood Service will be at Grafton Base Hospital between 37pm tomorrow, and from 9.30am-1pm on Thursday.

Donors are required to eat and drink before donating and need to present photo identification.
