Movie star heaps praise on Wooli

AUSTRALIAN acting legend Jack Thompson has saluted Wooli as an important link in Australia's seafood industry.

A new coastcare campaign is highlighting Australia's $2.3 billion seafood industry and the actor is on board as an ambassador, saying the industry is the backbone of many rural and regional centres.

Mr Thompson is a dedicated conservationist and recently starred in Australian production 'The Oyster Farmer'.

He said that fishermen and people working in the industry at Wooli should be saluted for going above and beyond compulsory process and implementing positive initiatives and programs.

"Over the last decade or so, the profile of what one may call a 'conservationist' has broadened to include all of us affected by the changing environment," said Mr Thompson.

"Given that the seafood industry is underpinned by healthy fish, healthy habitats and healthy water, it makes sense that Australia's fishermen are clearly embracing principles of marine conservation and becoming 'Stewards of the Sea'."
