Mum, dad good sports

The 2005 Daily Examiner Sports Star of the Year finalists and winner thanked the biggest supporters ? their parents.
The 11 finalists, aged 14 to 20 years, acknowledged parents in speeches on Friday night at the Sports Star presentation ceremony in Grafton.
Sports Star of the year, Jacob Lollback, 17, said his parents had contributed to his success in surf life saving.
"Mum and dad have been there for all of the (carnivals)," Lollback said.
Mick Russ accepted a 2005 Daily Examiner Sports Star of the Year Top 10 trophy for his son, hockey player, Nick.
"He never calls us his parents," Mr Russ said. "He calls us his sponsors."
Former Daily Examiner sports editor Max Godbee acknowledged the efforts of parents and coaches.
"Why do we have such good sportspersons?" he said. "It is how the parents and coaches have looked after them."
