August sees more than 10,000 Aussies lose jobs

MORE than 10,000 Australians lost their jobs in August, as the nation's jobless rate dropped another 0.1 points to 5.8%, new data revealed on Thursday.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics jobs data showed the number of employed Australians fell 10,800 to just over 11.6 million in August.

A fall in part-time employment drove the overall fall, with part-time jobs down 8200 to about 3.5 million and 2600 full-time jobs also lost during the month.

The overall fall in the employment rate was due to a drop in the number of men in full-time work and the number of women working part-time.

The total number of unemployed Australians also jumped 9400 to 714,100 during the month.
