Nomination rocks country girl

By EMMA CORNFORD

SHE has only released two songs, but Grafton country music artist Samantha McClymont will be walking down the red carpet on country music's night of nights, after she was nominated for three Golden Guitar awards.

Samantha, who this year won the prestigious Toyota Star Maker award at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, will next year be up against the likes of established country music stars Sara Storer and Beccy Cole in the female vocalist section with her song Heart of a Man.

"I wasn't expecting it at all so when they read my name out I was just shocked," Samantha said.

Her first single, Cookin' in my Kitchen, led her to being nominated for the best new talent award, while her collaboration with former Toyota Star Maker winner Travis Collins brought forward the nomination for best vocal collaboration.

The awards night on January 28 will almost be a Grafton showdown, with Grafton's Troy Cassar-Daley also nominated in best vocal collaboration for his song Bird On a Wire, which he worked on with Jimmy Barnes.

Troy has also been nominated for song, male vocalist, album, heritage song, instru- mental and single of the year awards.
