NRRRL pre-season competition


FOR the first time in many years a sanctioned pre-season competition will be conducted this year by the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League (NRRRL).

All 13 NRRRL teams are involved with the first round scheduled to kick off on Saturday, March 11.

"All teams apart from Kyogle and Cudgen are down to play two official games before the season proper," NRRRL secretary Doug Harrison said.

"The matches will be on a home and away basis."

Each team must provide a senior squad of 20 players and an Under-18 team.

The Under-18s will play four by 15-minute quarters and the seniors, four by 20-minute quarters.

Recommended admission prices are $5 adults and people Under-16 admitted free.

Round 1: March 11:

Cudgen v Mullumbimby (Ned Byrne Field, Kingscliff).

South Grafton v Lower Clarence (McKittrick Park, South Grafton).

Ballina v Tweed Coast Raiders (Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina).

Casino RSM v Grafton Ghosts (Queen Elizabeth Park, Casino).

Marist Brothers v Murwillumbah (Crozier Field, Lismore).

Byron Bay v South Tweed Heads (Rugby League Field, Byron Bay).

Kyogle, bye.

Round 2: March 18:

Grafton Ghosts v South Grafton (Frank McGuren Park, Grafton).

Lower Clarence v Ballina (Maclean Showground, Maclean).

Mullumbimby v Marist Brothers (Les Donnelly Field, Mullumbimby).

Kyogle v Casino RSM (New Park, Kyogle).

Murwillumbah v South Tweed Heads (Stan Sercombe Oval, Murwillumbah).

Tweed Coast Raiders v Byron Bay (Les Berger Field, Cabarita).
