Physio team is up to strength

GRAFTON Base Hospital physiotherapy department is finally up to its full complement of staff after long periods of time with short-term and transient workers.

The new physiotherapist in charge, Rob Newell, is joined by physio Angie Day who has recently returned to Grafton, and John Kim, who is on secondment from Bankstown Hospital.

Mr Newell joins the hospital after five years at Maclean and periods at Coffs Harbour and Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital.

He is excited to have taken up the position, and looking forward to working at the hospital.

"There has been some really great work done here in the last 12 months," he said. "The hospital management have installed air conditioning in the gym area which makes our group work and individual rehab much more comfortable."

Mr Newell said with the full complement of staff, the department would be able to work with outpatients to keep them out of hospital.

"It is also nice to be able to help to keep people out of hospital where you can," he said. "Earlier input to clients on how to manage their conditions will minimise the impact of their chronic disease and may actually prevent hospital being necessary."
