Quartet spreads the joy of music

VALLEY TREAT: The Australian String Quartet tour featuring, from left, Jeremy Williams, James Cuddeford, Natsuko Yoshimoto and Niall Brown.'IT'S thrilling, almost scary'.

According to violinist James Cuddeford, that is what you can expect when the Australian String Quartet performs in Grafton tomorrow at the Grafton Community and Function Centre.

"You'll hear a bit of everything, everything is a highlight," Mr Cuddeford said.

"We're playing 20th century music ? its thrilling, almost scary ? ... to 18th century classics from Mozart. If you're going to a restaurant you don't have three desserts."

He said people should come along for a relaxing experience.

"People should hopefully pick up on the intensity ... hearing a quartet live is very different to listening to a CD in the kitchen," Mr Cuddeford said.

The quartet's philosophy is simple ? music should be taken everywhere. The group was in The Pilbara last week before making the long trip down to Grafton.
