Recognition 60 years on

EVELYN Munday was not worried that it took around 60 years to recognise her contributions to the war effort.

Mrs Munday was among 50 other recipients of a military service medal who gathered at the Grafton District Services Club last week. The medal, which commemorates the efforts in the Pacific during World War II, was presented to the ex-servicemen and women by Member for Page Ian Causley.

Mrs Munday spoke about her experiences during the war.

"My husband was in the army, and I was in the Air Force, and we met through the service and got married", she said.

"I really didn't expect anything at all, it was just a wonderful surprise," she said.

After the presentation, the medal winners were given the chance to reflect on the past with their former enlistees present.
