Roof leap mishap

A 36 YEAR-OLD man has serious head injuries after falling off a roof at Iluka on Monday night.

According to police the man had been drinking with other people on Monday when an altercation broke out within the group. The man climbed to the roof of a building in Charles Street, before attempting to jump onto the roof of an adjoining structure.

It was when trying to jump between the buildings the man slipped and fell around four metres onto a concrete path.

Police said the man was not found until 9am yesterday as people arrived for work.

Maclean ambulance officers were called to the scene, as was the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter. The man, who is believed to be a tourist visiting from Queensland, was flown to Lismore Base Hospital with serious head injuries. Late yesterday afternoon the man was transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital by the rescue helicopter, where he was listed as being in a serious to critical condition.
