Samantha set to be queen of the charts

WITH a current Toyota Starmaker title to her name and a new CD single under her belt, Grafton country musician Samantha McClymont will be back in town this week.

Samantha, who is living in Sydney, has returned to Grafton for a holiday but will be working hard to promote her 'Cookin' in my kitchen' single with a CD signing and performance at Buckleys Music.

"I just thought I'd do it because I don't get home often these days and it was perfect timing because the single got released on the 15th of July," the reigning Jacaranda Queen said.

The single helped Samantha clinch the Starmaker title at this year's Tamworth Country Music Festival after she performed it in the finals.

"I had a lot of really good feedback about the song at the finals and from radio stations so I thought I'd put it on the CD," she said.

"It's pretty country but it's got a modern feel to it. I think a few people have had a bit of a shock ? I don't think they realised how country I am."

The rising star was given two months to choose the tracks for her release and poured over hundreds she was sent from all over Australia and the United States.

"There were so many but I ended up going back to the ones that I know and have performed."

Although she has had to defer university studies this year, Samantha's life has been packed with tours with the likes of Adam Harvey, playing countless gigs in Sydney and Queensland.

There is also the prospect of recording a full album late next year.

"I'm concentrating on Starmaker because it's not everyday you get a chance like this so I'm going to give it a fair go," she said.

To catch up with Samantha and hear her perform her new single, head to Buckleys Music in Prince Street at 11am today.
