BEFORE he received a phone call on Thursday, all that South Grafton resident Col Nobbs had ever won was a chook in a pub raffle.

But after winning a draw at Signall in Grafton Shoppingworld, the gaming technician is the proud owner of an LG widescreen television.

Anyone would be happy to win a TV, but it will come in handy for Mr Nobbs who is receiving chemotherapy to treat colon cancer.

"I'm going to set it up in the bedroom so I can lie back and watch it there. It's great," he said.

And having finished his Christmas shopping already, Mr Nobbs said there is no way he is going to give it away.

"No way in the world. I'll be keeping it ? it's like my Christmas present."

The owner of Signall Terry Purchall said he was glad Mr Noll had won the television ? not just because he is a regular customer, but because he and Mr Noll get on like a house on fire.

"It's really good that such a nice bloke who really appreciates it won it," he said.

"Everytime he comes in here he gives me a mouthful of lip and abuse and I throw it right back at him ? he's said that's the only reason he comes back here.

"He's a great guy."
