School salutes generosity

A RESTORED photo of Korean War veteran Lt-Col Charlie Green has been returned to Grafton High School.

Lt-Col Green was a student at the school.

Fellow Korean War veteran and long-term benefactor of the school, John Baden Williams, organised the refurbishment and reframing of the photo.

Mr Williams said the photo had been at the school for '40-odd years' and that as a fellow veteran he felt it was important that it be restored.

Grafton High principal Colin Lang said Lt-Col Green represented a tangible link for students to understand Australia's involvement in past wars.

"I think the photo's true significance lies in the fact he was recent enough in history for students to truly understand what he represents (and) the fact that many students commented on the photo's absence demonstrates this," Mr Lang said.

"There were many men and women who were veterans of Australia's wars that attended Grafton High. Charlie Green was a local and a significant figure and still has links in the school community.
