She ain?t heavy ...
CAL Baker will carry the weight of Australia ? and his 'wife' ? on his shoulders in the Wife Carrying World Championships in Finland.
The former Grafton rodeo rider appeared on Mornings with Kerri-Anne yesterday, with friend and teammate Kelly Smith, of Sydney.
Baker, 19, said the pair was invited on the show, with host Kerri-Anne Kennerley, after they won the Australian Wife Carrying Titles in Singleton on March 11.
"Straight after the show, Toni Bell from the Australian Western Horse Showcase website, called and offered to sponsor us $6000 to go to Finland," he said.
Baker said he would train by running with a bag of horse feed on his shoulders.
Ms Bell, of Denman, said she thought the competition was a 'crack up'.
"Cal is leading the rope and tie ? it will be great publicity for the horse industry and for rodeos," she said.
Ms Bell said most Australian cowboys dreamed of competing in the famous Calgary Stampede at Canada.
"It will be funny that his first trip overseas will be for wife-carrying," she said. "Australians know how to laugh at themselves."
