MELANIE Stewart, 19, cannot wait until the 140th Grafton Showgirl competition opens in May.
Born and bred in Grafton, Ms Stewart works at Target Country and hopes to study childcare.
"I have been involved in the show for many years and have always ridden horses, as well as assisting in the agricultural part of it. I'd really like to get more young people involved," she said.
She is also upholding a family tradition as her mother, Cathy, won the showgirl title in 1975, while her sister, Deanna, did the same in 2003 and competed for the zone title in Sydney.
"I can't wait until I get to meet up with the other girls; it will be a great opportunity to get used to talking in front of people and to improve my public speaking," she said.
