Snake killed in vandalism attack

VANDALS killed a snake and left a trail of destruction at Grafton's Corcoran Park at the weekend, police said.

The attack followed vandalism at Alex Bell Park last week where the amenities block was covered in obscene graffiti.

Sergeant Chris Cummins said the offenders killed a diamond back python while using the facilities at Corcoran Park before causing damage to other areas.

"They've strewn rubbish all around the place, and broken bot- tles (and) there's evidence of them doing wheelies in the grass," he said.

Sgt Cummins said police were investigating the incident, which happened on Sunday night or early Monday morning. He said it was in an area of the park frequently patrolled by police and known to be a problem area.

"It is a complaint area of ours that we patrol frequently and one of the problems we have down there is it's not an alcohol free zone," he said.
