Soaped up intruders slide into disrepute

THE small pool at the bottom of the Grafton water slide resembled a huge bubble bath yesterday after intruders poured bottles of washing up detergent down the slide.

It is believed that some time during Monday night, intruders jumped the fence, climbed the steps to the top of the water slide and emptied six bottles of detergent.

With rain falling much of the night, it is believed they then used the slide.

Pool staff found the pool bubbling over when they opened the Grafton Aquatic Centre complex about 6am yesterday.

By late yesterday, after draining the pool and spending hours cleaning up, the pool was still out of use.

Police said the actions of the intruders had damaged the pool filters, which would need to be repaired.

They appealed to anyone who might have seen intruders around the pool on Monday night to contact Grafton police on 6642 0222.

Pool staff said it was not the first time people had broken into the pool to use the water slide, but there had never previously been so much detergent used or so much damage caused.
