Soccer World Cup strike

AS the soccer World Cup in Germany edges closer, Grafton businessman Rob Connell is more excited than most about it kicking off ? because he'll be there.

Mighty River Automotive general sales manager Mr Connell will be among the crowd cheering on the Socceroos as they take on Japan on June 12.

Mr Connell had no idea he would be going to Germany until last week when he was informed by Hyundai that he had won a company competition. The prize ? a seven-day trip to Frankfurt to watch the Socceroos take on Japan and the chance to meet the Australian team after the game.

Mr Connell departs on June 9 and will enjoy a stopover in Vienna on his way to Frankfurt.

Once there he will stay at the Mariott Hotel and enjoy sight-seeing and cultural tours of the city as well as a tour of Hyundai's German design centre.

But it his match ticket and the possibility of meeting the Australian team that he is most excited about.

"It's something you dream about ? I'm just buzzing mate, I can't wait," he said.

To win Mr Connell had to finish within the top 25 of 95 Hyundai sales managers at the end of a two-and-a-half month period. Mr Connell and his Grafton team did better than that ? they finished number one.
