SOUTH Services opening bowlers Matt Peterson and Jason Thompson ensured their side gained vital first innings points against GI Hotel Tucabia-Copmanhurst at Ellem Oval on Saturday.

Tucabia, with Matt Blanch and Chris Adamson returning, resumed at 2-9 and confident of hauling in South's first innings total of 178.

However, Peterson (4-7) and Thompson (3-18) shattered Tucabia's plans.

Despite a fine 41 by Adamson, who was dropped three times, Tucabia was all out for 84. At one stage it was 6-24.

Peterson and Thompson were the main destroyers.

South captain Brett Woods elected to bat again to chase bonus points but Tucabia, headed by a fired up Adamson (3-19), had South in real trouble at 4-23 with the loss of Woods (9), Tom (0) and Matt Kroehnert (13) and Mark Laybutt (0).

Steve Laybutt (42no) and Thompson (38) guided South through troubled waters following the loss of three quick wickets.

South ended the match 5-125.

Tucabia's Adam Dewberry took five catches during the match.
