Sporting groups come together

SEVERAL sporting groups in Iluka will meet this weekend to discuss the implications of a proposed million-dollar development in the coastal hamlet.

On Thursday, The Daily Examiner revealed the Iluka Bowls Club wants to build up to 16 single-storey rental units next to the club on land it owns, known as Lot 93.

The development, which the club admits is only in its 'embryonic stage', will, according to sporting clubs, effectively destroy the rugby union and netball courts and impede on the cricket ground.

Residents have reacted angrily to the proposal saying the club should not be allowed to build the units.

The meeting between the sporting groups will be used to form a collective voice for future discussions with the club.

It is understood the meeting will be held tomorrow.
