Swimmers flock for short-course titles

Swimmers from NSW and Queensland converged on the South Grafton indoor pool on Sunday for the Grafton Amateur Swimming Club Spring short-course carnival.

Competitors from 19 clubs from as far north as Brisbane south to Sawtell attended the carnival, with feedback indicating that everyone had an enjoyable day.

One hundred athletes competed in the 108-event program with entries popular in the 6 to 13 years age categories.

It was great to see so many local club members participating.

Ben and David Piper won the age champion trophies in their respective age categories with other local medal winners being Brennan McCann, Matthew Muller, Tayla Chapman, Kelsey and Taylor Wilkes, Kayla Ellison, KyleSlater, Sonni Ellison, Tamara Hearfield and Rachael Piper.

The committee wishes to thank the club's sponsors including Alan and Allura Paterson and staff of the Grafton Lifestyle Centre, Hanks Kitchen, Bi-Lo Supermarket, McDonald's South Grafton, Grafton District Services Club Butchery; Silks on Course Catering; Teal Windows, Baker's Delight, Grafton City Batteries, Country Fresh Chickens, Shiralee Produce and Pollack Greening and Hampshire, Solicitor. The club also thanks Keith Midgley, Kevin and Gail Walters, Paula Skinner, Carmel Chapman, Sharni Rouse, Lucy Dalton and all other club parents who helped with timekeeping etc at the carnival.

The club's sign-on days for the 2005/2006 season will be at the Grafton Pool from 5.30pm on Wednesday, October 19. The club welcomes current and new members.
