TOOTHBRUSHES, sponges, sticks, pencils and brushes ? these are the utensils at the disposal of Grafton Public School students as they tackle the theme of 'My Grafton'.

Guided by Gumbaingerri elder, artist and school teacher, Irene Daley, around 70 students will combine their artistic talents to produce four major artworks.

Mrs Daley said the children were being taught the elements and principles of design.

"One little girl wanted to depict tents ... something she relates to from experiences camping on the river," she said.

The students' four major artworks will be auctioned at an art show to be held at the Grafton Public School Hall.

The art show, run over three days, commences with an adults only opening night on Wednesday, September 20, where the students' art works will be on display, with the major works being auctioned at 7.30pm All funds raised from the sale of the artworks supports the purchase of creative arts resources for Grafton Public School.
