These Days, Mikel?s an award-winning musician

JUST watching Mikel Johnson skilfully fiddle with chords on a guitar, it's hard to imagine the 19-year-old as anything but a musician.
Last night he beat other contenders including former Australian Idol contestant Ngaiire Joseph to win song of the year at the NSW North Coast Dolphin Awards.
The song entitled 'These Days' follows a sequence of events in his life, and "deals with mistakes and moving on to discover things are not so bad," Mr Johnson said.
Seventies crooner John Paul Young presented the budding singer/songwriter with his award at Byron Bay's Beach Hotel.
"I didn't expect to win this at all but it is just the start, the next five years are going to be intensive," he said.
Part of the award was winning a recording session, and he is also in talks with Sony BMG. When recording 'These Days' the multi-skilled muso played all of the instruments on the track including piano and guitar. In three weeks he finishes his advanced diploma at the Grafton TAFE Contemporary Music school.
