Thieves avoid low alcohol beer in raid

GRAFTON Ghosts Junior Rugby League gear worth $300 was stolen from the canteen at Frank McGuren Park this week.

Sergeant Chris Tuite from the Grafton Police said the break-in was discovered on Tuesday, but it probably had occurred a couple of days earlier.

He said the thieves gained entry through the roller door and had stolen Ghosts Junior shirts to the value of $300. President of the Ghosts Football Club, Michael Rogan, said some alcohol and soft drinks had also been stolen.

"But they didn't touch the light beer or the XXXX Gold," he said.

"They forced the roller door then smashed the padlock off the cooler room. It would have taken a lot of force and made a lot of noise.

"Let's hope the police catch the people who did it." He said the roller door would have to be replaced and that more security was needed at the park.

Anyone with any information should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Grafton police on 6642 0222.
