Thieves prey on city homes

By JULIA ILES

TWO counts of malicious damage, plus three of breaking, entering and stealing ? sadly, just another weekend in Grafton.

Between 11pm Friday and 8.30am Saturday morning, a handbag, mobile phone and cash were taken from a residence in Bacon Street.

In the same street at 2am on Saturday, another residence was burglarised. A mobile phone, cash, house and car keys were stolen.

Thieves attempted to steal a car parked in the garage.

The home's occupants were awakened by the noise of thieves trying to bypass an immobiliser in the car.

Across town in Dovedale Street, between 2.30-2.45am on the same morning, the occupants of a home were awakened by an intruder.

They ran out onto the street in time to see a man, around 180 to 190cm tall, with short dark hair and of heavy build, running from the house.

Upon returning inside they discovered a mobile phone and cash were missing from a bedside table.

It is believed the man entered through the open rear door.

The South Grafton Shell service station in Ryan Street was targeted by vandals or would-be thieves in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A stone was hurled at a laminated glass window, which was smashed but only a small hole was made.

In addition, either on Friday night or early on Saturday morning, a car in Bent Street, South Grafton, was vandalised with white spray paint.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to contact the Grafton police or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
