Tigers shopping around for fans
By TONY WHITE
GRAND final fever has struck early in Prince Street Grafton.
Local business Eyecare Plus are the major sponsors of Grafton Tigers Under-18 Australian Rules football team that take on Nambucca Valley in the grand final at the Coffs Harbour International Sports Stadium today.
The shop has been emblazoned with the Tigers black and yellow colours which has created attention from clientele and passers by.
Proprietor David Ford, a member of the Tigers first grade outfit, said the public response has been terrific.
"Everyone thinks its great a local business is getting behind one of our sporting teams and supporting them," Ford said. "All the local footy teams have suffered this year and we think it's nice to get behind the kids and display the Tigers colours.
"Hopefully they can come away with the flag."
Ford is a rugby convert.
"Yeah, this is my second year playing Aussie Rules and I'm enjoying it," he said. "Our results haven't been good, player numbers have been down and that's reflected in our results, but several of the Under-18s hopefully will make their way to first grade next year and we'll have some younger legs running around."
In tomorrow's Daily Examiner we will feature the young Tigers in their search for grand final glory.
