Tiley plea to Iemma: show us the money

CLARENCE Valley Council mayor Ian Tiley has penned a 'please explain' letter to NSW Minister for Health Morris Iemma in the wake of a disappointing State budget last week.

Cr Tiley wrote to seek Mr Iemma's advice on why promised funds were not included in the budget for the construction of new operating theatres at Grafton Base Hospital.

"Unfortunately, and despite widespread community support and promises dating back some four years, there is no specific mention of any funds in the budget for these urgently needed facilities," the mayor said in a letter dated May 27.

"However, funding may be available under various allocations for which no specific expenditure details are given."

Cr Tiley said the construction of the theatres was long overdue and, in the circumstances, council would appreciate Ministerial advice on any allocations of funds for this purpose or reasons for the continuing delays.
