Time to shake your Yellow Tail

By EMMA CORNFORD ecornford@dailyexaminer.com.au

HORSE racing has long been synonymous with men ? beer, cigars and fedora hats.

But times have changed and that's something that the Yellow Tail winery, a July Carnival sponsor, has embraced.

"I disagree that races are all about beer. I mean, you can see all these ladies walking past, all dressed up ? they've spent a fortune on their outfits and I doubt they want to drink beer," Casella Wines national sales manager Bob Powell said yesterday, as a well-dressed woman walked past decked out in her best outfit and a gorgeous hat.

"Absolutely, women are all becoming part of racedays. Also, studies have proven that a glass of red wine is better for you than beer and I think we're all becoming a lot more health conscious, even the guys."

Casella Wines, which owns Yellow Tail Winery, will be the wine sponsors of the Grafton races for the next three years.

"Races are all about celebrating," Mr Powell said. "The weather up here is marvelous and the races are something we are really looking forward to being a part of. And what better way to celebrate than cracking out a bottle of bubbly?

Indeed.
